    Select State
    1. Choose your state from the drop down menu
    2. Then click add to cart.
  • Sign Up Options & Passwords

    You will have two different options to sign up for an account.

Use this to sign in with your existing Google or Gmail credentials. You must use this button each time you log in, your Google password is not stored in our system so you can't just type into the email and password fields below. If you forget your password, use the Google Forgot Password function to reset it.

    2. You can use any email and password you want to create your account. If you forget your password at any point, you can use the forget password link at the bottom of the log in screen.

    If you can't remember which method you logged in with you can view this by clicking your name and then going to My Profile in the top right hand corner.

  • Starting the Course

    1. Click the My Courses link at the top of the page. Then click the Additional Info button to fill out your state required information.

    At any time you can view your course progress by opening the main menu in the top left and corner and then selecting course outline.

  • Quizzes

    Passing a quiz:

    Checkmarks on the left navigation pane mark your progress

    You will be required to PASS all of the 6 lessons contained in the course

    If you fail a quiz, you will have to review each page of content in that lesson before the lesson will allow you to retake the quiz.

    If you fail a quiz, you will have to spend the required minimum time on each page again if you fail a quiz.

    There is no limit on the number of times you can retake a lesson quiz, you may retake a lesson as many times as you need to until you pass.

    Some states apply a maximum number of times which you can fail the Final Exam (if applicable) before the entire course will automatically reset requiring you to start over at the beginning. Be sure to read your course description and the first page of the first lesson for more details on this and other state-specific requirements.

  • Certificates
    Print your certificate of completion from your My Courses page.

    Instructions for Users:

    1. Once you have completed all included lessons for a course you will be awarded a certificate of completion (if applicable) which you can print yourself from your My Courses screen. It will appear next to your course
    2. To pbtain a paper copy of your certificate click "Download Certificate".
  • Time Requirements

    There is a minimum time you are required to spend in the course, there is no maximum time limit. If you are in the middle of a lesson and need to leave, the system will save your place and when you come back it will open to the page you were last viewing.

  • Wrong State Information Displayed

    This is often directly related to one of the following issues:

    • Using a corporate or work device with a firewall, administrative settings or software designed to restrict the user's activity.
    • Using a corporate network with a proxy server or firewall designed to restrict the user's Internet access.
    • Using a device with ad blocking or anti-malware software without whitelisting the courses.boatus.org and cdn.kencookpartners.com websites

    To get the course to display the correct state information you may need to contact your employer's IT department to get the course listed as an approved website and/or disable any software that might block the site. Alternatively, you can try using a smartphone on a cellular network or unrestricted wifi network.

    To reset the state parameter in the course, click on the course menu in the top left corner of the screen (three little lines) and select course outline and scroll back to the very first page and click on it to go back to that page. If the site is no longer restricted, you will see that the state changes to the correct one on that page. Then you can use the menu to get back to the one of the pages with state specific information on it and make sure it changes it there.

    There is a script on the very first page that needs to run when loaded to change the state information and it may be blocked by any of the above situations. If you continue to have issues, please contact the Support Center for further troubleshooting.

  • How much does the course cost?

    The BoatU.S. Foundation is a free NASBLA approved course.When you finish, you can print your certificate on your own printer or order a printed paper certificate($8) or plastic card($13) for a fee. Some states will charge additional fees to issue you a permanent state ID verifying completion of a boating safety course. Be sure to read your state's Mandatory Eduation Requirements for more information.

  • How long will it take to receive the printed certificate/card that I ordered?

    Please allow 10-14 business days for delivery. Please make sure all information is correct before purchasing. If you have not received your certificate/card in this time frame, please check that your address is listed correctly in your account. If your information is incorrectly entered you will need to purchase an additional card.

  • Am I required to take a course?

    Choose your state boating safety course to get more information on your state's specific requirements for boaters.

  • Why am I learning about things that don't pertain to my style of boating or the waters I boat on?

    The National Association of State Boating Law Administrator (NASBLA), the organization that oversees boating courses and course content, requires a variety of topics to be covered in every boating safety course. This extra material helps to round out your experience and could be useful should you find yourself boating in a different area or on a different type of craft in the future.

  • How to get my certificate

  • How long is my certificate valid?

    Your boating safety certificate will never expire. It is valid for life. In some states, they will issue a permanent education card.

  • Does my certificate allow me to operate any boat?

    Check your state requirements for specifics about requirements for PWC vs other boats. Some states require classroom courses for PWC operation but have no requirements for other boats. On the courses page choose your state under State Boating Safety Course to learn about your state's requirements. View State Requirements →

  • Will I receive a certificate of completion when I finish my course?

    Not all courses will automatically award a certificate of completion. Check the course description to find out if you are eligible to receive a certificate upon successful completion of the course.

  • What if I don't have a printer? How do I get my certificate?
    Print your certificate of completion from your My Courses page.

    Instructions for Users Without a Printer:

    1. Once you have completed all included lessons for a course you will be awarded a certificate of completion (if applicable) which you can have mailed directly to you. To access mailing options navigate to your My Courses screen.
    2. Click Purchase Certificate. After you click, your mailing options will appear. To have us mail you a paper certificate or hard card for a nominal fee of $8.00 or $13.00.
    3. Once you choose "Purchase", a separate window will pop-up and you will be asked to verify your information
    4. Please verify that your info is correct as its listed in the window. You will then be grought to your cart to checkout. Once completed, a printed paper copy of your certificate will be mailed to you. Please note it may take 10-14 days for you to recieve your certificate of completion.

  • I made a typo in my name when I registered, how can I fix that?

    You can change some of your personal information by clicking on your name in the top right hand corner and then selecting 'My Profile'. Note that you cannot change your first and last name or date of birth. If you need to change any of these, contact us through our comments form located at the bottom of this page.

  • How do I enroll in a course?

    2. Click on the checkout now button to add to your cart.
    3. Once you have checked out the course will be added to the My Courses page upon sign in.

    Once you finish your login, shipping and billing information there will be a checkbox above the credit card field to enter your code.

  • How should I begin my course?

    Navigate to your My Courses page:

    Click the green start here button and fill in your profile information. Once complete you will be able to launch your course.

  • How do I save the progress in my lesson?
    A lesson can be closed in 2 ways, the red X in the top right corner or the Save & Close button.

    Click Exit in the top left corner of the lesson window to close the window and save your progress.

    You can close a lesson at any time to save your progress and come back later to complete it. When you reopen a lesson you have already viewed, it will automatically open to the last page you viewed.

  • Will I receive a certificate of completion when I finish the course?

    Most courses must be completed within 60 to 90 days of enrollment. When a course expires you will no longer see it on your my account screen.
