Nebraska Boating Education Law

Mandatory Education and Age Requirements:

Education Requirements
  • As of January 1, 2004, all boat and personal watercraft operators under the age of 18 must have completed a boating safety course approved by the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission and the National Association of Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA).
  • Reciprocity: Successful completion of boating safety courses certified and recognized by other states will be accepted by the Nebraska on-water enforcement officers in lieu of a Nebraska Boating Basics Course.
  • No one under 14 years of age shall operate a motorboat of any class at any time. It is unlawful for any person under the age of 18 to operate any motorboat (including PWC) unless he or she has completed a Boating Safety Course and is in possession of a valid Boating Safety Certificate card. A person must be 18 years of age to rent a motorboat, including a PWC.
  • The BoatU.S. Online Boating Safety Course does not meet this state’s boating education requirements.
