The BoatUS Foundation's Online Course is the only free Online Boating Safety Course approved by the Washington State Parks and Recreation CommissionApproved by the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission

As of January 1, 2014 all boat operators 59 years old and younger are required to have a Washington State issued Boater Education Card indicating that a boating safety education class or equivalency exam has been successfully completed by the card holder. By January 1, 2014, all boat operators meeting the requirements must have an education card.

For more information on Washington's boating regulations, click State Requirements above. The BoatUS Foundation's Washington Boating course consists of 6 lessons and a Final Exam. Each lesson has a 10-question quiz at the end to test your knowledge. The Final exam is 75 questions and you must pass with with a score of 80% or better.

To get your Washington Boater Education Card, follow these 4 simple steps:

  2. Create an account and enroll yourself in the Washington Boating Safety Course from the Course Catalog
  3. Take the course and pass the Final Exam - it's absolutely free to take the course and exam
  4. Print out your temporary certificate yourself for free and mail a copy to the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission along with this form and $10 to get your permanent Boater Education Card.
