The BoatUS Foundation's Online Course is NOT approved by the Vermont State Police to satisfy the mandatory education requirements for boaters and PWC operators born after 1/1/1974.

Anyone may take the BoatU.S. Foundation's Free Online Boating Safety course as practice or to receive a discount on boat/PWC marine insurance. But Vermont boaters who were born on or after 1/1/1974 must complete a course approved by the Vermont State Police in order to operate on the waters of the state of Vermont. The BoatUS Foundation's Vermont Boating course consists of 6 lessons and a Final Exam. Each lesson has a 10-question quiz at the end to test your knowledge. The Final exam is 75 questions and you must pass with with a score of 80% or better.

To get your Boating Safety Certificate, follow these 3 simple steps:

  2. Create an account and enroll yourself in the Vermont Boating Safety Course from the Course Catalog
  3. Pass the course and print out your certificate of completion* yourself for free - it's absolutely free to take the course and print your certificate, or you can have BoatUS mail you a certificate for $5.

*This certificate of completion is not NASBLA nor state approved and will not entitle boaters born on or after 1/1/1974 to operate on the waters of Vermont.
