The BoatUS Foundation's Online Course is the only free Online Boating Safety Course approved by the New York State Parks & Recreation for boaters 18 years of age and older.

This course is NOT approved for New York residents who are 10 through 17 years of age, wishing to operate a motorboat, and residents 14 years of age and older, wishing to operate a PWC. These boaters are required to pass a New York State Parks & recreation approved classrom boating safety course. For more details on exactly which type a course and what they are permitted to operate, click on State Requirements above.

The BoatUS Foundation's New York Boating course consists of 6 lessons and a Final Exam. Each lesson has a 10-question quiz at the end. You must pass all 6 lesson quizzes and the final exam to complete the course. The Final exam is 75 questions and you must pass with with a score of 80% or better in order to print your certificate of completion. Boaters under the age of 18 and PWC operators are welcome to take this course as a refresher or practice for their classroom course, but passing this course WILL NOT authorize you to operate a vessel on the waters of the state of New York. If you are under the age of 18, you will not be awarded a certificate of completion for passing this course.

  3. Pass the course and print out your certificate of completion* yourself for free - it's absolutely free to take the course and print your certificate, or you can have BoatUS mail you a certificate for $5.

*Certificates will only be awarded to students over the age of 18.
