The BoatUS Foundation's Online Course is approved by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to satisfy the mandatory education requirements for boaters and PWC operators born after 1/1/1984.Louisiana state safe boating course, logo for the department of wildlife and fisheries.

Anyone may take the BoatU.S. Foundation's Free Online Boating Safety course as practice or to receive a discount on boat/PWC marine insurance. Louisiana boaters who were born on or after 1/1/1984 must complete a course approved by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in order to operate on the waters of the state of Louisiana. The BoatUS Foundation's Louisiana Boating course consists of 6 lessons and a Final Exam. Each lesson has a 10-question quiz at the end to test your knowledge. The Final exam is 75 questions and you must pass with with a score of 80% or better.

To get your Boating Safety Certificate, follow these 3 simple steps:

  2. Create an account and enroll yourself in the Louisiana Boating Safety Course from the Course Catalog
  3. Pass the course and print out your certificate of completion yourself for free - it's absolutely free to take the course and print your certificate.

    You will be mailed a Louisiana Certification Card within 3-4 weeks after completing this course. If you do not receive your card within 4 weeks, please call the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries at 225-765-2989.
